Track Championships On The Line at
Quincy
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL (Sept 13, 2012) - The 2012 Quincy Raceways Track Champions
in all six divisions will be crown this coming Sunday evening
September 16 during the TnT Action Sports Season Championship races.
Several of the track titles are still up for grabs as the point’s
racing season comes to a close.
Jason Perry is in the drivers seat for the UMP Super Late Model Track
Championship with a 36 point lead over defending Track Champion Justin
Reed with Dustin Griffin in third 43 points behind Perry. Perry
currently also leads the National Rookie of the Year standings for the
UMP Late Model division. Forty Five different drivers have competed in
the UMP Super Late Models this season at Quincy Raceways excluding the
SummerNationals event in July.
Steven DeLonjay is well on his way to his second straight Quincy
Raceways Miller Lite UMP Modified Track Champion title by holding an
insurmountable 99 point margin over Jared Schlipman and 108 point lead
over Dave Wietholder going into the final point’s racing event.
Terry Houston holds a fifteen point margin over Jerry Jansen in the
IMCA Stock Car division and a twenty one point lead over Abe Huls who
has been a terror of the class by winning ten features in fifteen
events this year. Huls missed a race night when he took a vacation
earlier in the summer. Houston can not relax and have trouble during
the Season Championship race night as Jansen could make up the
difference with some good luck on his part.
Tony Dunker is looking for his third Track Championship title in the
Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA SportMod class, Dunker has two
previous Track Championships in the now defunct B-Modifieds. Dunker
holds a thirty five point lead over Bobby Anders in second and forty
six point margin over 2011 SportMod Track Champ Joe Bliven.
Jake Powers and Brandon Symmonds are battling it out for the Quincy
Hobby Stock Track Championship as Powers holds a very slim two point
margin over Symmonds going into the Season Championship night. Tanner
Klingele sits in the third spot fifteen markers behind Powers and has
a mathematical chance to sneak in to grab the Track Championship
laurels. The heat races will also become a factor in the Hobby Stock
division as heat race points are awarded on a three two one basis.
A season long battle for the first IMCA Sport Compact Track
Championship has been raging between Seith Woodruff and Kimberly
Abbott with Woodruff holding a very slim three point margin over
Abbott going into the Season Championship race night. Abbott is
seeking her first Track Championship title and would become the first
female Track Champ in the history of Quincy Raceways if she can pass
Woodruff in the points chase. Austen Becerra, who has been on a tear
in the Sport Compacts as of late sits in third forty markers behind
Woodruff. Becerra has captured six points feature wins in a row.
