Gower, Perry, Long, Houston, Powers and Abbott Take Quincy Checkers
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL (Sept. 11, 2011) - The 2011 race season is quickly coming
to a close as only one more point’s event is left on the calendar as
well as the final night for the King of the Hill Front Row Challenge
on September 25. Joey Gower, Jason Perry, Michael Long, Terry Houston,
Jake Powers and Kimberly Abbott scored feature event wins during the
Summy Tire and Auto Center Night at the Races on Sunday, September 11.
Joey
Gower got past Keith Pratt on the eighth lap of the Budweiser Late
Model feature event and went on to a dominating win a the checkered
flag. Pratt held onto the second spot followed by Matt Bailey in
third, Jason Perry in fourth and Denny Woodworth in fifth. Woodworth
and Perry were the heat race winners.
Jason
Perry was the big winner as he captured the Summy Tire and Auto Center
Late Model Shootout for the top 10 in track point’s that were in
attendance. Perry took home the $700 winners check after drawing the
pole position for the twenty lap event. Perry led all twenty laps with
Denny Woodworth nipping at his heals for the final seventeen circuits.
Woodworth settled for second followed by Matt Bailey in third, Joey
Gower in fourth and Keith Pratt in fifth.
Michael Long and Mark Burgtorf looked like they would repeat last
weeks performance in the Miller LIte UMP Modified main event with the
two dicing back and forth for the lead over the first twenty laps of
the twenty five lap main event but Burgtorf’s ride went up in smoke on
the twenty first lap giving Long the chance to finish the race
uncontested for his sixth feature win in a row and his seventh in nine
attempts this season. Steven DeLonjay managed to take second followed
by Jared Schlipman in third, Kenny Wallace in fourth and Dave
Wietholder in fifth. Burgtorf and Jake Griffin were the heat race
winners. DeLonjay’s second place finish was enough to seal up the
Track Points Championship for the 2011 season over Jared Schlipman.
Terry
Houston
laid claim to his second feature win in a row in the Triple R
Performance Engines IMCA Stock Cars. The non points event was ran for
no points, just cash. Andrew Griffin settled for the second spot after
pressuring Houston for several laps for the lead. Aaron Brocksieck
grabbed third followed by Abe Huls in fourth and Jerry Jansen in
fifth. Brocksieck holds a slim five point advantage over Houston going
into the Season Championship event on September 18.
Jake
Powers put on a dominating performance in the KRNQ Pepsi Inside Track
Hobby Stock main event as he grabbed the lead on lap six and held off
all challenges to take the feature event win. Bobby Anders claimed the
second spot followed by Nathan Anders, Steve Carlin and Nathan Hayes.
Jim Powell and Jeremy Buss were the heat race winners. Carlin now
holds seemingly insurmountable twenty two point advantage over Powers
going into the Season Championship next week.

Things. Craig Bangert settled for second followed by Casey Kendrick in
third, Brandon Lambert in fourth and Austin Uppinghouse in fifth.
