Great
Racing and Wild Finishes at Quincy Raceways
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL
(August 7, 2011) - Mark Burgtorf, Michael Long, Aaron Brocksieck, Tanner
Klingele and Todd Nelson all laid claim to feature event wins during the
Budwesier Rinella Distributing Night at the Races on Sunday, August 7 at
Quincy Raceways.
Billy
Genenbacher and Lonnie Bailey led the fourteen car Budweiser IMCA Late Model
main event to the green flag with Bailey leading the first fourteen laps
until Joey Gower slipped past to take the lead. Gower held on to the lead
until lap twenty six when Keith Pratt powered past for the top spot but
Pratt was about to have some serious mechanical problems as his left front
tie rod broke and his brakes went out. Pratt held on to the lead until
coming off the final corner when disaster struck as a lapped car and a fast
closing Mark Burgtorf closed up onto Pratt. Pratt ended up rolling his car,
flying through the air and coming to a stop but not before Burgtorf, Gower
and Lonnie Bailey crossed the finish line as the checkered flag waved. Pratt
managed to score fourth followed by Justin Reed in fifth. Pratt and Bailey
were the heat race winners. Pratt closed to within four points of points
leader, Justin Reed as only eleven points separate the top 5 of Reed, Pratt,
Lonnie Bailey, Denny Woodworth and Gower.
Steven
DeLonjay was on a mission to set a new feature win streak record in the
Miller Lite UMP Modified division but the other twenty one entrants were not
going to lay down and just let him take the win. Michael Long pulled into
the lead of the main event on the third lap and held off some very serious
challenges from Jared Schlipman through lap twelve with DeLonjay nipping at
the heals of Schlipman. DeLonjay pulled into second of lap thirteen as
Schlipman began to fade back. DeLonjay kept up the challenge to Long until a
lap twenty one caution set up a restart with DeLonjay and Long restarting
side by side but it did play out as expected as Chris Spaulding came
blasting past DeLonjay for the second spot. Spaulding kept up the pressure
on Long but slipped up on the final lap allowing DeLonjay one last slot at
Long which did not bear out. Long took the win with DeLonjay in second,
Spaulding in third, Schlipman in fourth and Ray Bollinger in fifth. Craig
Spegal, DeLonjay and Schlipman were the heat race winners. DeLonjay now
holds a significant ninety five point lead over Schlipman in his quest for
the Track Points Championship.
The Triple
R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Cars put on their regular great feature
event racing as Aaron Brocksieck powered his way to his third feature event
win of the season. Kevin Tomlinson scored second followed by Andrew Griffin
in third, Abe Huls in fourth and Terry Houston in fifth. Andrew Griffin took
the heat race win. Brocksieck now holds a nine point advantage over Houston
in the points chase.
Tanner
Klingele put on a dominating performance in the KRNQ Pepsi Inside Track
Hobby Stock main event as he lead all twenty laps, but it was not without
some effort as he held off Bobby Anders over the final two thirds of the
event. Anders settled for second followed by Adam Scott, Steve Carlin and
Brandon Symmonds. Jim Powell and Carlin were the heat race winners. Carlin
now holds a twenty five point lead in the Track Points Championship battle
over Jake Powers.
Todd Nelson
took the feature event win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Wild Things
main event, his third in six tries. Seth Woodruff held on for second
followed by Craig Bangert in third, Robert Thompson in fourth and Kimberly
Abbott in fifth. Casey Kendrick and Nelson were the heat race winners.
Woodruff now holds a slim two point margin over Kendrick as Kendrick had
mechanical problems in the feature race.
