Quincy Raceways Announces 2012 Purse Structure
Quincy Raceways has added the sanctioned UMP Late Models for the
2012. The payoff will feature $1000 to Win the 30 lap main event with
the 2nd $700.3rd $500, 4th $400, 5th
$300, 6th $200, 7th $175, 8th $160, 9th
$150, 10th through 18th $125 and 19th
through 24th $115. All non feature qualifiers will receive
$75. The total purse for the UMP Late Models for a weekly event will
be $5400, the highest in Quincy Raceways history.
The IMCA Stock Cars
and IMCA Northern Sport Mods have also had their payoffs announced
which will be the same as Lee County Speedway and 34 Raceway with $300
for 1st, $200 for 2nd, $150 for 3rd,
125 for 4th, $100 for 5th, $80 for 6th,
$70 for 7th, $65 for 8th, $60 for 9th
through 12th, $55 for 13th through 15th,
and $50 for 16th through 24. All non feature qualifiers
will receive $40. The total purse for both the IMCA Stock Cars and
IMCA Northern Sport Mods will be $1945. The payoff for the UMP
Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts will remain the same
as in 2011.
It also being
announced that all racers in any class at Quincy Raceways will be
required to purchase and use RACECEIVERs during the 2012 season.
RACECEIVERs are available for purchase from most racing suppliers with
Pit Side Parts in Donnellson, Iowa and Griffin Performance in Quincy
having special buys on them at this time. It was felt that by using
the RACECEIVER system, the time it takes to realign the cars during
caution flags and the on track safety of competitors and race
officials would be greatly improved.
Quincy Raceways new email address is
quincyraceways@gmail.com
Please use this for all email communications with the track. It will
be checked at least daily if not more. There will be new phone service
as well in the near future, hopefully with the same phone numbers as
before.
The 2012 schedule is
being worked out now with at least two late model special events
possibly Northern All Stars and MARS and at least one MOWA sprint car
show as well. We will be announcing more as soon as possible.
Racecievers will be
required by all drivers at Quincy Raceways in 2012. More detail on
that soon as well.
Quincy Raceways will be under
new ownership for the 2012 season.
November 3, 2011 -
The announcement came late Wednesday night when Paul Holtschlag and
Bob Rhinberger announced their partnership, representing the fourth
ownership group for the 37-year-old facility since 2007.
Holtschlag had been a co-owner since 2009 with Tony Rhinberger. Tony
Rhinberger was bought out by Bob Rhinberger, his father. No sale price
was disclosed.
In
another major -- and equally important -- announcement, Holtschlag
said the track's late model division, its marquee series, will be
sanctioned by United Midwestern Promoters (UMP), barring any
unforeseen problems with unfinished paperwork in the coming weeks.
"Quincy has a great racing fan base and racers who love to race,"
Holtschlag said. "We're going to get this going in the right
direction, and feel the UMP sanctioning of the late models is the way
to go. The economy is tough out there right now, but we're confident
and we're excited about this new direction for the late model class at
Quincy Raceways."
The average weekly late model car counts have dropped in each of the
last five years, from a track-record 25 in 2006 to 15 last season.
Quincy Raceways sanctioned its modified class with UMP in 2009 and
drew a weekly average of 25 cars, a record for a modified division at
the track. The previous high had been 24 in the old "B" modified
series in 2002.
The UMP late model sanctioning reverses a recent announcement made by
Tony Rhinberger before he sold his half of the track operation that
Quincy Raceways late models would be aligned with the Missouri-based
United Late Model Association (ULMA), severing a 14-year sanctioning
agreement with the International Motorsports Contest Association (IMCA),
headquartered in Vinton, Iowa.
Holtschlag, Bob Rhinberger and other track officials met with late
model drivers Tuesday night to let them know about the change in
ownership and get their input on what sanctioning direction the track
should take.
"The overwhelming majority, I would say 90 percent, was for going with
UMP," said Holtschlag, a local businessman who also owns several group
homes in Missouri, Kutter's Bar and Grill on the Quincy riverfont, a
restaurant in southeastern Iowa and is developing the site at 18th and
Broadway that once housed Prairie Farms Dairy properties.
UMP currently sanctions eight racing divisions with more than 100
tracks in 19 states and one Canadian province. UMP was created in 1984
by the late Bob Memmer, and is arguably best known for its annual
Summernationals "Hell Tour" each June and July. The organization's
corporate headquarters are in Concord, N.C., but much of its
dirt-track operations is housed in Grayville, Ill. There are 22 UMP
tracks in Illinois.
Quincy will be the only UMP track in the region with
Sunday night racing, which is expected to help draw larger late model
fields. Shepp's Speedway in Alexander, Ill., formerly raced on Sundays
but is switching to Fridays.
Holtschlag said the overriding key to the .29-mile track's success
will be its racing surface, which was much improved in 2011 over 2010.
Considerable offseason work was done a year ago at this time and it
paid dividends, said Holtschlag, who coordinated much of that work
himself.
"Word gets around, and I feel we made progress this past season," he
said. "I think most of the comments about the track last season were
very positive."
Quincy Raceways was family owned and operated for the first 32 years
(1975-2007) of its existence. The late Albert Scott ran the track
until selling it his son, Bob Scott, in 1993. The track was purchased
by Tony Rhinberger and Mike Karhoff in January 2007. Rhinberger then
bought out Karhoff and operated the facility by himself through 2008
until teaming Holtschlag in 2009.

by 8:00pm it became obvious
that the efforts were not
going to be enough as the top half of the track just got worse and

IMCA Approves Rain Date Points for Quincy Raceways
June 17, 2011 - Quincy Raceways has received approval to award IMCA
points for the IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Late Models for future Tuesday
Rain Make-up race nights during the 2011 season.. There is a couple of
exceptions, the IMCA Late Models may not receive points on any Tuesday
race dates if they conflict with any Deery Brothers Summer Series
scheduled events such as July 12 and 26. The IMCA Stock Cars will be
the same way for any Special Events that are scheduled for the IMCA
Stock Cars on Tuesdays.
Quincy Raceways petitioned IMCA for this special dispensation after
suffering multiple rainouts over the first third of the 2011 race
season. “We would like to thank IMCA for granting Quincy Raceways the
ability to award IMCA points if we need to have any more rain dates on
Tuesday’s during the 2011 season” said Tony Rhinberger, Quincy

Photos and comments from Jack
Walbring
The
only time I have ever seen it worse was in June in 1993, the year of
the great flood when we had over 8 inches in one night. The water was
just about over the top of the billboards in the infield. We believe
that the water level last night and this morning may have actually
been a foot to 18” higher than when I shot those pictures at 9:00 am
this morning.

Mother Nature Takes Checkered Flag at Quincy Raceways
Quincy Raceways has been forced to cancel the Heetco Night at the
Races for Sunday April 17, 2011. Heavy Rains on Friday along with cool
and cloudy temperatures on Saturday with no wind to help dry the track
and pit area on Sunday have led to very wet conditions on the track
and pit area forcing the cancellation.
Quincy Raceways owners Tony Rhinberger and Paul Holtschlag felt that
even if the track could have been dried enough to race, track
conditions would have led to a very rough race track that would
possibly lead to some very damaged and torn up race cars. Track
conditions for the first two nights at Quincy Raceways this season
have been good and to have raced today would have led to serious
damage to the racing surface as well as the race equipment of our
loyal drivers.
Coming up next Sunday April 24 at Quincy Raceways will be Crawdad’s
Classic Gourmet Seasonings Night at the Races featuring point’s racing
in the Budweiser IMCA Late Models, Miller Lite UMP Modifieds, Triple R
Performance Engines IMCA Stock Cars, KRNQ Pepsi Inside Track Hobby
Stocks and the Summy Tire and Auto Center Wild Things. Sunday April 24
